The studio
About
Reliquiae means remains. Relics. The things that outlast the room they were made for.
I work between three materials — metal, stone, and paint — because each one sits a different distance from the body. A cuff is worn. A console is lived beside. A painting is met across a room. The same idea behaves differently at each of those distances, and I want to see all three.
The forms come from antiquity: fluting, drapery, laurel, the broken profile of a bust recovered from the ground. The finish comes from somewhere much further ahead — edges that glow, seams that shouldn't be possible, gold poured into the fracture instead of hiding it.
Process
Everything is made by hand, in small runs of exactly one. Forms are modelled or carved first, then cast, formed, or painted, then finished slowly — patina, leaf, polish, and light. Nothing is reproduced, and nothing leaves the studio until it looks like it survived something.
Materials
Brass, sterling silver, gold vermeil and 23k leaf, cast stone, blackened steel, smoked glass, oil and dry pigment on linen, and stones chosen one at a time.
Commissions
Commissioned work is taken a few times a year for jewelry and furniture. Write with the room, the body, or the idea and I'll tell you honestly whether it belongs here.
